The Last Degree

The Last Degree

After weeks of isolation with only their selves for company, they are entering the relative Piccadilly Circus of the Last Degree. A popular route for shorter ski trips and a reason for keeping their eyes peeled and pointed south at the horizon for the first signs of the finish line. Reena (India) updates us today with PodCasts in English and Hindi.

Reena's PodCast in writing:

"Hello its Rea from the (?) Commonweath Antartic Expidition and we had a very good day. The sun was out and the best part of all there was no wind because even if the sun is out and there is wind it becomes very cold . So there was no wind and the ground seems to have become more evened out, flatter. We do have sastrugis but they very small. Nothing compared to what we had faced last week. This is smooth sailing for all of us.

Now that we on the last degree the 89th degree we saw another trail which is strange because we've been pretty much on our own for the last few weeks. But now that we are in the last degree we will be expecting to see more and more other groups and other groups' trails. What happens is most of the people just fly into the last degree and they ski the last degree to the South Pole, not all the way like we've been doing from the coast. We are expecting more and more company. In fact, there are two other groups also in our immediate vacinity so we might be bumping into them. Because it's the last degree, it's very popular.

Everbody's doing fine. Except from the minor aches and pains which have become so much a part of life that you don't even bother about it. It's become part of me, part of us, having these kinds of ailments. We're all very excited and very happy that everyday we are getting closer and closer to the Pole. We are looking for any signs of the polar station, the American base, Amundsen-Scott station at the South Pole. But we haven't seen any signs yet no flags, no snow mobile trails or anything but I'm pretty sure that tomorrow or the day after we will be coming into some of those. Hopefully! That will mean we are closer to our goal.

And that's it for today from our side. mybest wishes to everybody, my friends, my well wishers and my family. Talk to you in the New Year "
