Expedition Equipment heads for Chile

Packing!

Early in November the team will depart for Punta Arenas in the very south of Chile which is the departure point for flights to Antarctica. In order that all their vital expedition equipment is waiting for them in Punta Arenas when they arrive it had to packed up and sent by cargo ahead of the team this week.

Packing all the equipment and supplies that the team will need for a 40-day expedition was a big job that required many hands. Sledges needed to be stowed carefully to prevent damage in transit, packaging had to be stripped away and ski's had to be wrapped in yards of bubble wrap. It was also a last chance to get as many last minute jobs done as possible, such as insulating thermos flasks, colour coding toothbrushes and creating repair kits.

Luckily there were plenty of volunteers on hand. Thanks to Mark and Connie who took a day off work to help out and to Jackie and Richard Aston who spent a long night wrestling with bubble wrap!
